Community activities taking place September 11

The Town of McCandless will host a scaled-back "Community Day" on Saturday, September 11.

The very first McCandless Town Trot 5K and Fun Run will take place at 9 a.m. at North Allegheny Intermediate. Proceeds from the race will go to the Highland, Ingomar and Peebles Volunteer Fire Companies. For more info and to sign up, click here.

The Frank J. Farina Car Cruise will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. at North Allegheny Intermediate.

The McCandless/Northern Allegheny Heritage Center will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., Jim Vinski, a lifelong history buff and reenactor, will offer a demonstration on some of the items a World War II soldier would carry.

Starting around 6:30 p.m., there will be "Fireworks and Food Trucks" at McCandless Town Hall/Devlin Park. Bring a blanket and some lawn games, and settle in. There will also be an observance of first responders and veterans around 7:00 p.m.. The evening will culminate with a patriotic fireworks display around 8:15 p.m.
