The battle against litter never seems to end. PennDOT spends roughly $14 million annually on statewide litter efforts. This summer, the Pennsylvania State Police initiated Operation Clean Sweep, a project reinforcing a zero-tolerance mindset with litter enforcement and sharing anti-litter messages throughout the year.
To give an idea of the scale of the litter problem — even with major, official efforts such as these, 99 percent of litter cleanup still is done by volunteers.
Do your part … the next roadside litter cleanup event in McCandless is scheduled for Saturday morning October 16 at 10 a.m. All are welcome.
We have a loyal group of veteran “Litter Getters” (this will be our 7th event), but we are always looking for new folks who want to make a big difference in cleaning up litter in McCandless. Get 2 or 3 of your friends, neighbors, or co-workers together and form a group that cleans up an area that you drive by every day. You’ll notice the difference it makes!
Safety vests, gloves and bags will be available for participants.
