Officer Michael Cheberenchick and Officer Michael Metzger were presented with the first annual “Officer of the Year” award named in honor of Officer Albert Devlin who lost his life in the line of duty on January 8, 1973 while serving as a McCandless Police Officer.
At the presentation at the April 23 Town Council meeting, Chief Dave DiSanti dedicated the award to all the officers who have served here over the years. In attendance was Officer Devlin’s son, Al Jr., who was 10 years old at the time of his father’s death and is now serving as an intake guard at the Allegheny County Jail.
This year’s selection was from the uniformed patrol division, and the candidates were recommended by the Command Staff for their dedication to duty, proactivity, going above and beyond the normal daily duties, and a dedication to the community and the department. Their loyalty is extremely appreciated. Congratulations to both officers.
