On October 1, 2016, the Town contracted with Waste Management to implement a new automated trash, recycling, and yard waste program.
NOTE: Customers who vacate their homes for a minimum of 2 months are permitted to temporarily discontinue service during that period. A minimum of 10 days' advance notice is required. Temporary discontinuation will have a maximum term of 6 months. To apply for a temporary service waiver, contact the Town at 412-364-0616.

In 2018, residents in McCandless disposed of 7,109.03 tons of solid waste to the landfill, 3,287.23 tons of items were recycled and 2,934.23 tons of yard waste was composted (for a total of 46.7 percent of items diverted from the landfill, nearly 12 percent more than the statewide goal of 35 percent).
