[ARCHIVED] Pittsburgh Pioneers: Allegheny Observatory on May 15 and 29

observatory

Join us on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Heritage and Cultural Center for a presentation on the history of the Allegheny Observatory.

Built between 1900 and 1912, the Allegheny Observatory has been home to significant astronomical discoveries. The University of Pittsburgh's Kerry Handron (the observatory's outreach coordinator) will introduce you to the people and science of the observatory, and will explore the historical and regional importance of the program.

In addition to this presentation, there will be a field trip to tour the observatory building on Thursday, May 29 at 8 p.m. If the weather is clear, tourers will get a chance to use the Fitz/Clark telescope to view the Moon and Mars.

Registration is required and must be done online via CivicRec (event is under the "HCC Lecture Series" tab).
