The McCandless Police Department is affiliated with a nationwide nonprofit company based in Florida known as A Child is Missing.
This partnership enables a lightning-fast neighborhood alert system to be activated to aid in the recovery of missing children. The alert's system technology allows 1,000 automated telephone alert calls to be placed within one minute. In addition, the alert system can be used for the disabled and elderly.
Here's how it works:
- First, someone calls 911 to report a missing person
- Second, a law enforcement supervisor reports the missing child, elderly, or disabled person to A Child is Missing
- Third, the system places automated telephone calls to local residents and businesses, providing the missing person's name and description, urging the call recipients to keep a vigilant watch
Residents with further questions are welcome to contact the chief of police at 412-369-7992.
