Pollutant Reduction Plans

2024 project updates

PRP project

Recently, work was completed on an important stormwater project as a part of the Town's Pollutant Reduction Plan (PRP).

For this project, approximately 420 feet of Little Pine Creek located on McCandless Township Sanitary Authority property was rehabilitated.

The project (which was funded through the Town's Capital Budget) is estimated to reduce 48,300 lbs/year of sediment from Little Pine Creek.

Municipalities throughout the country are under a federal mandate requiring a stormwater management program for reducing pollution impacts from stormwater runoff. In 2003, the Town of McCandless was issued a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and the Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, PADEP is requiring MS4s that discharge to an impaired stream prepare a Pollutant Reduction Plan (PRP) for sediment, nitrogen, and/or phosphorus. The goal of the PRP is to reduce pollution caused by sediment and/or nutrients in impaired streams.

2023 Updates

The Town of McCandless is soliciting comments on an update to their Pollutant Reduction Plan (PRP) for the Lowries Run, Girtys Run, Little Pine Creek and Pine Creek - North Park Lake Watersheds. The Town's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit requires McCandless to develop a PRP to discuss methodologies to reduce sediment and phosphorus and make this plan available for public review and comment. The PRPs are available for review at Town Hall:

Hours

They also are available for review electronically on this page.

Comments on the draft plan must be filed in writing, to the attention of Brian O'Malley, Town Manager, within 30 days of the publication of this advertisement. Original 2017 PRPs

The Town of McCandless has prepared a pollutant reduction plan (PRP) for each Town watershed to comply with a new PADEP requirement for the upcoming 2018 to 2023 Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit. The PRPs outline potential actions and projects that reduce pollution caused by sediment and/or nutrients in watershed streams.

The plans were available for public comment from July 24 to August 25, 2017.

Further, you will find the Pollution Reduction Plans in PDF form. Additionally, a copy of the general overview that was presented at the PRP open house on July 24, 2017 is available as well.
