Leaf and Snow Angels Program
We currently have more people seeking service than volunteers. Please consider signing up to help someone in need.
The McCandless Snow and Leaf Angels Program matches dedicated volunteers with Town residents who are unable to remove snow after snow storms during the winter or rake and collect leaves during the leaf collection season.
Residents must be 60 years of age or older and/or have a physical disability in order to be eligible to be matched up with volunteers.
These programs match residents with volunteers when/if there are enough volunteers to fill the requests. There is no guarantee that enough volunteers will be secured. If/when there are no remaining volunteers to match, a message will be placed on this page indicating that residents may still submit their information, but that they are encouraged to find alternate assistance, as Angel assistance is not guaranteed.
Volunteer Information
- Groups of volunteers are encouraged to work together. Gather friends, family clubs, church groups, employee groups or individuals to provide community service while meeting new neighbors.
- Volunteers must be at least 15 years old OR be accompanied by a parent/guardian
- For Leaf Angels, volunteers will rake and cleanup at their match's home ONE TIME during the season.
- For Snow Angels, cleanups will take place following major snow events (at the match’s request)
- Bring your own equipment (shovel, rakes, gloves, etc.)
- For Leaf Angels, many roads in Town only require leaves to be raked to the curbline. Some roads require leaves to be bagged for collection. The list of roads where bagging is required may be found here. For leaf bag properties, the resident must supply the bags for the volunteer.
- For Snow Angels, only shoveling is required (salting is optional; please communicate with your match regarding preference or ability to salt)
- Commit to taking at least one property, or more, as time permits
- All properties will be located in the Town of McCandless
Requestee Information
- Residents who need assistance with snow or leaf removal must complete the application form, which includes a liability waiver statement. All residents must complete and submit the form before a volunteer match can be made.
- Requestees must be 60 years of age or older and/or have a physical disability
- Once a connection is made, it is the responsibility of the participants to schedule the collections.
- You are not guaranteed assistance by signing up for this program. Service depends on the availability of volunteers.
- You may not receive immediate help during a snowfall. Please give your volunteer a reasonable amount of time to assist you. Your volunteer may have work, family, or personal matters that prevent them from immediately clearing your driveway and walkway.
