Leaf Pickup
The Town of McCandless Fall Leaf Pick-Up Program begins Monday, October 16, 2023 and will run through Wednesday, November 22, 2023. There will be no leaf pick up on Saturdays and Sundays, or Election Day (Nov. 7). Leaf vacuum trucks and pick up of biodegradable paper bags will be used to accomplish the Town’s leaf pick up. There is no specific day for Town leaf pick up.
LEAF VACUUM TRUCKS: LEAVES ONLY are to be raked onto the curb and gutter line. No tree limbs, grass clippings, or other yard waste will be collected.
- Leaves should be spread along frontage (not onto the road) so as not to block 2-way traffic or emergency vehicle access. Please try to get your leaves as close to the curb as possible without getting onto the street. Due to the reach of the vacuum, please try to make sure your leaf pile is no more than 2 feet from the curb.
- The vacuums will pick up anything that are under them (stones, mulch, etc.), so be mindful of where you rake your leaves to.
LEAF BAGS: LEAVES ONLY are to be placed in the bags. Leaf bags should be placed as close to the edge of the road as possible. BIODEGRADABLE PAPER BAGS ONLY will be collected. No plastic bags will be collected.

ONLY DESIGNATED MANDATORY LEAF BAG PICK-UP STREETS ARE REQUIRED to use leaf bags and are entitled to receive 25 free leaf bags per household from the Town of McCandless Department of Public Works Office (proof of residency required). Quantities in excess of 25 bags per household may be purchased at a cost of $15 per bundle of 25 bags. Bags will be available beginning Monday, October 2, 2023 at the Department of Public Works Office, 9957 Grubbs Road, Wexford, PA 15090.
During the course of this program, if your address is missed or you see the truck pass and you didn't get your leaves out, don't worry. Crews will circulate their routes many times over the next several weeks.
GREEN-TOP YARD-WASTE CONTAINERS may be used for leaves and yard waste. In addition, UP TO THREE (3) PAPER COMPOSTING BAGS may be placed at the curb as part of the weekly seasonal yard-waste collection at no extra charge. More than three (3) bags will incur a charge. Volume (bulk) pick-ups must notify the trash disposal contractor by 3 p.m. the day before. These items must be placed curbside so they do not interfere with collection of carts. Seasonal green-top yard-waste collection ends Friday, December 1, 2023. Dates for green-top yard-waste pick up should correspond with your weekly collection.
